Agreed, the mailing lists I manage through Yahoo function exactly the  
same way.  We've managed to avoid SPAM on our lists that way for going  
on about 8 years now and > 10,000 active members.  No one can post  
until we approve their membership and even then their messages require  
approval until we say they don't.  Works very well.
