Thanks. I looked and I do have 10.4 universal installed. I am trying
another suggestion.
After I know I can build, then I will look at the README to customize the
libpurple. Thanks.

Do you have the 10.4 universal SDK installed? It's an option you need to
select from the XCode installer. Look in /Developer/SDKs to see if it's
there.
My other question is how do I go about updating the libpurple in the
AdiumX distribution with the current libpurple or should I only look at
the libpurple that is included with AdiumX distribution. I am interested
in looking at issues regarding file transfer, sound, and video
transmissions and that is why I am wanting to do some work with libpurple.
See the README file in Utilities/dep-build/scripts which describes the
steps you need to take to build a custom version of Libpurple.framework
and use it within your Adium build.
