The core concepts are the same, but there are a lot of differences. The second biggest one is that branches don't work the same way as in Git: in Mercurial, a branch name is a permanent part of every commit. The biggest is that Mercurial does not have an index: you commit all or part of the working copy directly.
I recommend SourceTree. It makes working with Git a lot less painful and should smooth over most of the differences between Mercurial and Git.
