We spoke on Twitter. :) I'm glad you're interested in helping us out. Spam on the Xtras site has been pretty annoying.

I'm afraid I don't know anything about the code as I'm not a programmer of any kind. Someone will be able to comment on that.

Mercurial isn't very different from Git from what I've gathered. Let us know if you run into any stumbling blocks. "hg clonehttp://hg.adium.im/www/adiumxtras.com/" should get you the code for starters. Also seehttps://trac.adium.im/wiki/GettingMercurial.
