Even Joe Geek has far greater exposure to "jabber" than to "xmpp". It
seems far more public xmpp server are named jabber.example.com than
xmpp.example.com (take a look at http://www.jabberes.org/servers/).
Apple's new Messages beta offers jabber as an option, but not xmpp.
It's my experience that only IM geeks know/care about the xmpp
distinction.

I suspect that most people who know xmpp would recognize jabber, but
that most people who might look for jabber would NOT recognize xmpp.
I'm not convinced that simply changing "jabber" to "xmpp" isn't a
detriment to our users.
