Don't you mean it's preferable that you ship libpurple code that is as
close as possible to the last libpurple release, period?  We've
demonstrated a number of times that our releases are not always from
im.pidgin.pidgin, such as our 2.2.x releases and most recently 2.4.3.

Not all of the differences involve practices or "philosophy", as
evidenced by a recent far-too-long thread on our development list.  It's
clear to me that these differences are *never* going to be resolved.  I
wouldn't put myself through the frustration that will come from trying
to reconcile them.  This is, however, beyond the scope of this mailing
list (or so I have been informed).
