Leopard has and Snow Leopard will bring significant changes to the way  
we interact with the system. We must implement these changes as Apple  
has deprecated and will eventually remove the old APIs.

Many of the changes Apple has made in Leopard and Snow Leopard are to  
making developing applications easier, and make the resulting  
applications faster and more capable. The sooner we implement the  
necessary changes, the sooner we can develop using new technologies  
like Core Animation, new QuickTime APIs, 64-bit applications, and  
garbage collection. Most of these aren't new features that can be  
"ONLY" done in Leopard; they're fundamental to how we interact with  
the system to implement new features on top of.


Adium 1.3 will always run in Tiger, and maybe Adium 1.4 will too. But  
if Apple pulls in one direction we cannot resist or we risk not being  
able to run in future operating systems at all. Even if we delay in  
updating, it just creates more work for us further down the road. It's  
not not trivial to straddle the gap.
