It does seem like a concern to me.  Having someone in my contact list  
because I have to communicate with them for work reasons or whatever  
doesn't automatically mean they're close personal friends of mine or  
that I want them to be able to find out where I am any time I'm  
online.  The Zephyr protocol reveals this information (by using the IP  
address as part of the message-ID field) but the others let you keep  
some measure of privacy in this regard when online.
