That's why I said multiple times I don't want hard dates.

I just want a process where we know ahead of time roughly what sort of  
schedule we are on for our minor releases. And in general we'd have a  
LOT fewer things in those releases anyway, so the scope would be much  
smaller and things would be easier to test.

To reflect on something Elliott said (great mail, btw): Both he and I  
have been in the software industry shipping consumer desktop apps.  
Coming back to Adium's loose development style is both a bit jarring  
and also frustrating because we have seen how much easier a little bit  
of structure, planning and discipline can make everyone's life.

To reflect on something David said: I hypothesize that being more  
disciplined and organized will increase participation and could even  
help us attract and retain new developers.
