I think requiring a extension of .patch would be a good start, and if 
it's compressed, .patch.zip or .patch.bz2. If we ended up going with 
that solution, a query for file extension name, we'd already be on the 
right track there. Plus it's just nice to have some uniformity there. 
Thoughts?
