I think this is actually a Google Talk server bug. There's an
attribute (include='all') you have to set when requesting the roster
if you want to get the entire address book. There's another attribute
(ext='2') you set when you just want Google Talk specific information
about your normal IM buddies. I started setting the latter attribute,
but once in a while (I can't repro it on demand), it seems the servers
are sending back the entire address book as if I'm setting
include='all'.

I'll let you know when I have this solved.
