[Adium-devl] The evils of Trac (was: Re: [Adium-feedback] Fwd: ContactUs - Adium X - Trac)

I finish my final exams at the end of October. Between now and then,
I could only work here and there, between study. From there, I've got
nothing planned. The way I see it, we could have the base
functionality of Trac with a bunch of the things listed here done in
less than the time that it will take the Trac team to implement some
of these tickets.

I haven't really looked at the Trac development since the (not dead
yet, but still on hold) work I was doing on integrating Trac with
IRC, and there were some pretty simple changes that would mean great
improvements that had been sitting there for quite a time. Things
might have changed since then, but this is what I saw.

I of course, couldn't do it on my own. I have a large chunk of it
mapped out in my head already, and I know some BSD licensed projects
I could grab some code from for some of the functionality we want
(search, spam from typo, modified MarkDown from BlueCloth, etc). If
anyone else is interested in helping, or if there are any web
developers in the community who have some time... That would be great
to know about.

In terms on working on Trac rather than creating a new solution, I'd
tend to say it's a whole lot of work on a system which needs
considerable improvement. Forking, with frequent merges may be our
best bet in this case, simply because patches we produce may not fit
with the Trac vision/paradigm, and they may not be merged/released
for some time after submission.
