Running 1.5.9 and 1.7hg?

I've been working on a plugin and developing it against 1.7hg but I'd 
like to keep 1.5.9 running for daily use. Is there a way to do that?

Running 1.7hg "over shadows" 1.5.9 and Adium throws "errors" about 
signing in from another location, etc.

Disabling accounts in 1.7hg disables them in 1.5.9 (and vice-versa).

Is there a way to sandbox 1.7hg and not have it effect 1.5.9?

My background is Linux and I'm still learning the osx way of things.
