Here are a few of my comments:
I don't think the participants of a group chat should be listed under the tab (think: lots of people).
I like the file transfer, but I think it should be available outside of the chat window.
Participants list is nice; if the contact doesn't have a picture we could use the sender colour there or not show a picture.
What is the flag for in the header?
iOS-style indicators, I don't like the appearance of them, but the location looks okay.
The colour of the message bar's background seems to stand out too much.

Could you do a mockup of top and/or bottom tabs?

P.S. I don't think we should be basing the design/style on what Lion may look like.
