How to show a toolbar item by default for a plugin

I found that the default items for  is hard coded  in
AIMessageWindowController.m, so I think it is not possible to set the
default items for the plugin, right?

if it is not possible, what about adding a observer for something like
'Chat_DidOpen' and using insertItemWithItemIdentifier to let the
plugin's toolbar item show?
