This thread has gone on long enough, and all it is up to this point is back
and forth, with people asking to have it turned back on, and then nobody
doing it, which appears like some people just don't care. To me this is the
worst part of this whole thread, we had a nice vote previously about this
(see Colin's reference to it) in which this was already decided, now the
change is overruled for no apparently strong reason to a lot of people. I
think this is the crux of why people are angry about the change. Angry may
be too strong of a word, but you guys know me, I'm blunt and this is how I
see it.

So the question becomes, what do you guys do? Some of you vehemently want
it, some of you vehemently don't, and there's no middle ground apparently.
Some people just don't care and want to see this thread die, most likely.

To me it's simple. Take up a vote. One week period, majority rules. Or you
could have one person just say "this is how it is" and just go with that.
It's just a mailing list.

To reiterate things as I see them:

People who want the subject line addition want it so that they get to filter
easier.

People who do not want the subject line addition feel that this is wasted
space, and because listid can filter like the subject line change, if an
email is sent to the list.

While discussing this on irc, the only thing that Zac said wouldn't work if
listid is used, is direct emails which previously would have had
[adium-devl] in the mailing list. In my previous usage, I would get emails
directly to me, that I liked auto filtering to the appropriate folder.
Without the subject line "mangling" that wouldn't be possible very easily.
This is why I personally would vote for having the subject line changes,
however if someone figures out how to make either mail or gmail do the
filtering like that without the subject line change, I'd change my vote.

I don't see a way around making at least one person angry here,
unfortunately. This wasn't a big deal until mid last year though, I don't
know what changed. *sigh*
