Still 1.4 doesn't work with SSL behind a proxy

It's not a user question because it asks whether the recent change was
necessary because of limitations in the actual library libpurple or not.
since the newer build picks up a new version I don't know if a backward
compatible way existed or not to authenticate the way things were before.
So it's not a user question.
