Still 1.4 doesn't work with SSL behind a proxy

So, I still have to run 1.3 with yahoo behind a proxy since that proxy
rejects any SSL attempts to authenticate with yahoo in 1.4
Why is it
necessary to authenticate with SSL with yahoo? Does libpurple support
authenticating the same way 1.3 did?
