Building Libpurple Statically

I'm not developing an IPhone app. What I'm trying to do is use libpurple
server-side to act as a gateway between an already existing IM client and
Yahoo.
Thanks for the quick responses and the link to the ApolloIM project.
Unfortunately, they link dynamically to the plugins as well...
Could you explain in more detail how you linked statically? Or is there a
way to check out old versions of adium and see the libpurple build process?
Unless libpurple has always been released precompiled with the Adium
source...
