Open source most definitely is a feature. Some people care about
software being open source for its own sake. Others are interested in
using programs they can potentially modify, either contributing back
or making changes for themselves. Open source promises transparency -
you can check what the program is doing and how ("is my password being
sent to somewhere? What about my personal information?"), or if you
can't yourself, you can assume (usually correctly) that someone else
has. And so on. Two words convey a whole lot of meaning.
