Having used appengine a little, I can tell you right now it's very  
unlikely you could get it to work. The only way to get it to call out  
to other services is over http, and even then you're very limited in  
terms of the length of time request handling can take - for something  
like a chat client for an existing network I  can't see it being  
feasible.
