Indicating mentions

I know you said that screenshots are deceptive. However, I think you'd  
get a lot more feedback on these if you provided some screenshots.  
Without screenshots I think you're losing some value here.

I find the sheer amount of variants to be overwhelming to be quite  
honest. The default variant itself I found to be a bit weird with  
highlights. The button-esque look just didn't look right for a message  
view. The element just didn't fit.
