I'm happy to avoid GoDaddy if there's a feasible way to do so... I'd  
also rather not do a free year with the expectation of taking time to  
switch certificates (and thereby probably look to many tinfoil-hat  
people like we were hacked or something) a year from now.

Let's go with the StartSSL Verified $30 package they offer - that  
seems incredibly reasonable.

I don't know anything about setting up SSL for webservers.. I'm happy  
to take care of signing us up, though.  Is there anything in  
particular I need to know or look out for?
