These are provided by the message view style. I don't know that we  
provide any facility to distinguish one-to-one chats from group chats  
in the message view style, so you would have to add one.

This really is a message-view style decision.

That's good, but you really need to already have familiarity with  
Objective-C and Cocoa before you start working on Adium.

If you want to be a GSoC student on Adium, you should throw yourself  
into Cocoa *right now*. You have just under two months, in which time  
you can become at least moderately proficient before the coding phase  
begins.
