My name is MAtt Baer (mind the 'A'), and this summer I'll be a rising
sophomore of computer science and either math or physics at the College of
Charleston. I was giddy when I saw Adium near the top of the (alphabetical)
list of mentoring organizations for Summer of Code, so I went ahead and
fleshed out some ideas for an Adium iPhone client. I would appreciate any
feedback before I submit my proposal.

I think few Adium users will be satisfied with the AOL client that has been
announced for the iPhone. Though I haven't used it, I doubt that AOL is
going to support any protocol besides their own, and I shiver at the idea
that there might be ads.

I imagine you have some idea of which protocols should be implemented first,
so I'll leave that be. The application would allow simultaneous logins and
would log chats, which could then be synced when you plug your device back
into your Mac. Tabbed messaging is a must, and might implement that nifty
two finger page switch thing. I imagine that the Webkit styles would be
reusable. Encryption would be a priority as well. I love the idea of
implementing Bonjour on a mobile device, that would have some really neat
uses.

Such an application has the opportunity to be very useful, and very popular.
I would be happy to draw some mock ups and come up with a more complete list
of features if you're interested.

I love this idea, because it is both high profile and will allow me to
justify buying one or a dozen of the devices. After the Summer of Code ends
I would love to continue to contribute to this application.

Thanks for you time,
MAtt Baer

P.S. Sorry if you got this message twice, I accidentally sent it to the GSoC
2006 listserv first
