I'm not telling XCode to unravel the symlinks, which is what I think it's
doing when it tries to find the library inside the framework, and hence
where the versioning problem comes in.

I tried the weak linking of the framework idea that was passed around, but
the libpurple framework isn't loaded before plugins are initialised, so it
just causes Adium to have a "Bus Error" and die.  I'll have a crack at
loading the framework at runtime and see if that works.
