Y!M has done video for years. They already wrote the necessary C  
QuickTime code to do it.

We'd be doing it now, or in the future*. The QuickTime C API is now  
deprecated in favor of a new Objective-C API. The new API is Leopard- 
only.

So, what you're suggesting is to implement it using the C API, then  
implement it *again* using the Objective-C API, and throw out all the  
old C-based code once we drop Tiger. Implementing video chat is hard  
enough without having to do it *twice*.

*I think we have some stuff done, but I don't know how relevant it is  
to today's trunk.
