I don't know of a good concise history... I've talked about the  
history in various interviews over the years. One of the better ones  
was with drunkenbatman, though you have to put up with my inane  
chattering. :)

Beyond that, it could be interesting to build a history on the Trac  
wiki... what sort of things would be interesting or useful to include?
