Not a bad plan, esp. since our version number is 100% arbitrary at
this point (although it would be nice if it, or some other number, had
semantics for plugin authors)
WRT our web presence, personally I think we could be a bit better with
press releases and making a giant hooplah about what's new in a
release. Really I think we just need more people blogging about Adium.
Realized earlier that Peter and I are the only two folks with blogs
that update regularly.
I highly recommend these tools to make blogging not a PITA:
- Wordpress. It's pretty good, although the web editing UI sucks
(but all web text editing UIs suck). Make sure you have some form of
spam protection (akismet or Peter's NTT), or you will never log in to
the admin interface out of fear.
- MarsEdit. Homigawd. Makes blogging feel almost like email writing.
If only it weren't for that pesky formatting...
- PHPMarkdown. I can write blog entries and not have to deal with
crazy HTML? you mean I can format stuff (mostly) like I do in email
already?? Insane! Plus, Markdown was developed (initially at least) by
the Mac community's own John Gruber.
If enough other folks set up blogs I think resurrecting Planet Adium
would be a good idea (see planet.mozilla.org and planet.gnome.org to
get the idea). with the three or four blogs we'd have on there right
now I don't really see the point ;)
