+1. This will make us full, equal players in the libpurple game.

I'd also really like to avoid having a pre-compiled libpurple checked  
in to our tree. I think it would promote visibility of the libpurple  
code to Adium developers -- right now it's a bit difficult to get  
started hacking on it.
