That's precisely how Google Notifier handles it, to my pleasant
surprise. Very smooth.

While I generally prefer GPL-licensing open source efforts so as to
feed those efforts back into open source development, I'd even come
down on the side of a standalone implementation of this behavior
being new-BSD-licensed, as it's really functionality every app
shipping on a disk image should have.

Might have problems doing that from within the launched application,
since it's running from the disk... but that would be a nice bonus if
feasible.
