My understanding of the problem is that only one mDNS stack should be  
running on any given system, and OS X has what is effectively a  
daemon for the whole system running all the time.  That daemon can be  
accessed via the various mDNS calls.

Please don't treat the above as being the gospel, though -- I read  
about this a long time ago and it's possible I'm misremembering or  
was misinformed.  If we can use the code directly as a libgaim  
dependency or what-have-you, that'd be awesome.
