Ya, I think it's important, and we really need to come up with something
better.
I'd like to not start scheduling meetings during work hours and school
hours, based on the stance that those are more important. My stance on
this with every project I've been involved with is that if school or
work is affected by working on the project, then you need to take care
of business there first. I think the same applies here, and that we
should not be advocating attending while at work/school (but it's fine
if you can and it won't affect things there).
Strategically thought out smaller "howto-esque" meetings sound good to
me, I'll have to review the rest of your previous email when I get home.
My belief was that these larger meetings were more about syncing
everyone up with what everyone else is doing.
What do we actually need in a meeting? Do we need to have a sync up
meeting or can that go to the mailing list? If so, it might be prudent
to investigate airset (http://www.airset.com). If we had a shared
calendar there multiple meetings a month could be scheduled during all
sorts of different hours, which may be more of what is actually needed
here. For instance, we'd have a new person orientation next week, and
also 2 other sessions such as what you suggested and maybe a user
training/workshop session as well.
