We haven't had enough of them for me to have a reliable opinion, but  
so far I think the ones that have happened have been productive.

Basically anytime during the day, although afternoon typically is  
blocked by errands.

Nope. I have a pretty flexible schedule. I can easily make room for  
an Adium or Growl meeting, providing I know that it's going to happen  
(in which case I allocate an event in iCal for it). I simply didn't  
notice the info on the upcoming meeting that was in your previous  
meeting-related email.
