Hi,
The fields in that option pane are actually those used in the
Jabber account options, so nothing is being invented there.
What I was trying to get at is how to present the options
pane if we decide to offer an automated approach, where we
use the automatic connection algorithm provide by the account
( Google Talk 5223, then 443, etc), yet allow the user to
override the default behaviour if they so wish. It also
takes into account that some options, such as mail notifications,
are more global to an account's settings, than whether we
are using automatic or manual connection parameters.
I too had wondered about the use of radio buttons, as Peter
had suggested, with
[ ] Mail notifications
() Automatic
( ) Manual
<fieldset>
though when I went through various settings of Apple originated
applications I didn't see anything using that design approach.
For that reason I wondered whether there was some design philosophy
in place that avoided using this design?
One other thing I wondered about, is whether the 'options' pane
is not more of 'connection' pane, where mail notifications should
be present in some other pane?
Andre
