Perhaps I'm out of my depth, but could it be possible that libgaim
could have an interface which simply gets the V/V data, and it's left
up to the client to decide how to handle it, whether it's with
gstreamer or quicktime or some other mechanism? Each OS has its own
ideal way of doing things, so that would seem a sensible design to me.

Though open source vs quicktime is an issue, the fact that Adium only
runs on OS X as it is, combined with quicktime being provided as part
of the operating system, makes it seem logical to me that quicktime
could be used.

Just my two cents,

Thomas
