Richard Laager of Pidgin said that they'd be open to switching
something else if we find something better, so we should be open to
things that aren't Monotone.
Speaking for myself, Monotone is my *least* favorite DVCS, based on
my very brief runs-in with it.
As I've made very public on my blag, Darcs is my favorite. I love the
freedom it gives me—for example, committing (recording) is
interactive, so you can have multiple changes in the same file and
only commit the ones you want to.
Also, I've read that they've fixed Conflict Misery for 2.0, so we may
want to look at the 2.0 betas. On the other hand, Darcs is the most
different of the DVCSs; it's even a bit more different from
Subversion than Monotone is. (Which is not to say that it's hard to
figure out—if anything, it's easier than something that's similar
but not the same, since you'll have fewer unpleasant surprises
through fewer pre-existing expectations.)
The *least* different is Bazaar, which has exactly the same UI as
Subversion except where necessary. However, I don't know what else it
has going for it, aside from being a 1.0 and being backed by the
Ubuntu people.
So, I suggest either Darcs or Bazaar.
