I think that's a great idea, though it'll require me to change  
practices a bit (I have tons of text clippings and random files in my  
usual checkout... but it'd be better to be building releases from a  
clean checkout, anyways).  I vote go ahead and merge that to trunk,  
with the addition of an all-noassert target as mentioned in my  
previous email.
