The problem with this is that you're diluting the purpose of Sparkle.  
As I understand it, Sparkle is a framework for  automagic updating of  
software. Now, if you start adding features to it which don't  
necessarily related to its primary purpose for the reason of  
evangelising good practice or because of convenience, you're doing  
something wrong.

This code doesn't have to be a huge thing and it can be released  
under BSD license to encourage more people to use it, if that helps,  
but rolling it into a loosely related project seems like it wouldn't  
be the best of plans.

Of course, I'm not involved in Sparkle, so I could be missing some  
overarching world domination plan for the project, so my thoughts are  
just that: my thoughts, not gospel.
