I'd also like to take a moment to point out (since I just had this  
thought) that I have sometimes carried around a .sparseimage or .dmg  
with Mac apps I use on a FAT32 thumb drive, so that I kind of get the  
best of both worlds, so we should make sure to not simply assume "oh,  
I'm on a disk image, the user is wrong."
