HIG is dead.  We're using a pretty, subtle gray gradient for the  
selection color and the split view (AIMessageTabSplitView).

The real problem is syncing elements on a gradient.  Is there a  
decent solution to that problem?  For example, if the gradient is  
from color A to B, the selected tab will show a much quicker change  
in color than the split view would if the gradient is vertical.  If  
horizontal, we just have to prepare for the ordering which will be  
seen... i guess that would mean specail casing the left vs. right tabs.
