My thoughts would be that I like Tick's screens a fair bit, the above
I'd say could be better if it was
[icon] [count] Name [close]
and count could be a variant for the status icon. I say this layout
works to me because it's easy to track with the eye, the above and
alterations of it keep items in various X, Y spots across the cell
and the disjointedness makes the eye jump around in cell and in list.
As to the sizing issue, one trick we could employ is to detect when
the list is 'full' and then jack the size of the icons down until
they reach a minimum. This is like how the sidebar in the Finder
behaves as you shrink it. Mousing down and holding on the icon could
then produce a 'zoomed' full size image (it's an easy trick to do so.)
