This is an interesting idea/suggestion which I don't know if it's
already implemented or not (are you explaining how things work or
making a suggestion on how they *should* work?). If @<domain> happens
to be mandatory for Jabber accounts, then for the GTalk contact type a
suitable rationale could be: Adium checks if there's an @ symbol in the
GTalk ID field of the "Add Contact" pannel and makes sure the string
reads "@gmail.com" exactly, adapting it accordingly otherwise (I can
see many entering a potentially erroneous "@gmail" string after the
ID); if there's no "@gmail.com" string, Adium adds it behind the scene
for the uneducated user.... if said string does happen to be mandatory,
of course.

I believe this rationale could be extended to other account types if
such checks aren't already performed: when adding .Mac contacts, for
instance, the "@mac.com" string could be validated and/or added after
the screen name, again if it happens to be mandatory to work with said
contact type (read below).

Are you sure this is the case for .Mac? I know .Mac is AIM based and
communicates just fine with non .Mac contacts (AIM itself, ICQ,
others). But last I heard, <screenname> was not the same as
<screenname>@mac.com on AIM the network (maybe the "johndoe at mac.com"
string --with the @ symbol somehow escaped-- is considered different as
a whole from plain "johndoe"?)... But, of course, whoever told me that
(who was it?) could have been drunk and all this paragraph might seem
like pure nonesense to you and others here ;-)
