[Adium-devl] Fwd: Invitation to Participate in Summer of Code 2006

Below I've forwarded an email I received today from Leslie Hawthorn
of Google inviting us to participate in the Google Summer of Code as
a mentoring organization. I think this would be a great opportunity,
both for Adium (to get some new folks interested in developing) and
for students (obviously). We'll need people willing to be individual
mentors for students who apply -- I'm willing to be one -- as well as
creating a page of suggested project ideas (we suggest some, and
applicants can apply for suggested ideas as well as for their own.
Judging from Gaim's Summer of Code, suggested ones are going to go
better than students' own, but our mileage might vary).

The Summer of Code 'payment' is $4500 for the student (wow! I'll be
making quite a bit less as a full-time medical researcher this
summer...), who is supposed to be a full-time coder for the project
for the summer, and $500 for the project. I propose that we split
the project money in some equitable way between the mentor and some
sort of bounty for other projects which we'll come up with at a
future point -- perhaps $350 to the mentor and $150 to a bounty fund?
Just a random thought.

Let's discuss it a bit here; I'll then do the formal response to
Google and get the ball rolling.
